Our new Christmas tradition is celebrating Advent. Advent means "to come". As the children are getting older, Christmas needs to be more of the focus on Jesus and less on the presents. I mean, honestly, think about it. If it was your birthday and Amanda and I came to the party and gave each other a gift and ignored you, wouldn't you think we were weird. This is Jesus' birthday (or at least a day to remember Him). After church we lit the first purple candle which is the Prophecy Candle of HOPE. Last year I bought the ADVENTure of Christmas book and the wire candle holder. This year I bought the candles and read the book.

Also in preparation of Christmas, I had the children look through the Samaritans Purse gift catalog and choose gifts to give to those in need. Amanda chose to give musical lambs. She also chose to donate to help provide surgery to repair the cleft lip of someone. And last, she chose to contribute to preventing human trafficking. Daniel chose to donate sports gear, to stock a fish pond and train and equip an evangelist.

They each have a list of their own, don't get me wrong. But they understand that giving is where the focus needs to be.
