Thanksgiving 2013

I am thankful for God for without Him I wouldn't be blessed like this...

All the makings of an apple pie
Daniel mixing the cinnamon and sugar with the apples.

Curtis taught Daniel how to make a pie crust.

Daniel shredding cheese for the mashed potatoes.

Taking the turkey out of the brine bucket.

Turkey in the bag and ready to bake.

Way too much food for the five of us.

These are a few of my favorite things...
Hey look, I'm in a picture!

Mom rolling out the pie crust.

Curtis made a fancy lattice crust.

Our first time using a pie crust "mold" (little apples).
A new recipe

Daniel posing with my pies.

Cranberry-Pear. Yes it was as good as it looks!

After dinner reading.

Skellig. I think they spent more time complaining than reading.

Turkey brining, pie making and reading = exhaustion. Even for the cat.

One Month Mark

I had to look back. It was Saturday, October 19th when we first went to the gym. It was painful. And it was a Saturday afternoon.

(We have only missed a few days. Sundays are our days off.)

During the week, we started going in the early morning after we would wake Amanda. We would stay for twenty minutes but with the "getting ready and getting there" it was closer to 30 minutes of our morning time. I would say that it was in the time frame of 4:45 and 5:15 am.

After two weeks we bumped it up to 30 minutes. After one or two days I realized we needed to adjust the time. I realized that 4:20 is the ideal time. I change and stretch and we are out the door at 4:40 am. We are back by 5:20 am so Curtis can shower and get out by 6.

On Saturday, we go around 6 am. I am usually awake at 4:20 by habit now!

Amanda is out by 6:25 and then I wake Daniel shortly after that.

Daniel is out by 7:15. I have the next hour to clean up a little, do laundry, and walk the dog. Patches has been here for 3 weeks. We love her. She gets a mile walk every morning and sometimes in the afternoon. She definitely looks like she lost weight. Amanda said she is at Fat Camp.

Curtis lost weight too. Me? I might have but then again I just wanted the scale to stop going in the wrong direction. My clothes fit again so I am happy.

Sometimes if the weather is nice I take the baby for a walk. The one day, Robert had a 3 mile morning walk and another mile walk in the afternoon. On top of that I had been to the gym and the dog had 2 walks that day. I was totally and completely exhausted!

I was not in bed at 6 pm. But you would think so, right? It's hard to go to bed before 10 pm. Sometimes is our schedule and other times it's just because I am in this new routine. Six and a half hours seems to be the amount of sleep, on an average, that I have been getting.

In the beginning it was really tough. I wanted to take a nap at 9:30 with the baby instead of doing my Bible study. Some days Robert didn't want to take a nap. Those are the days when I can't sit on the floor. I have to be moving!

But all in all, I would say that I feel 100% better than I have in months. I am just hoping that I don't hurt myself and it all comes to an end.

Do you stretch? It's so important.

Here are some pictures of our house guest. I didn't want her on the couch but the first day she let me know that she wasn't going to listen. The Mean Queen is finally allowing Patches to sniff her.

Patches goes home on Saturday. We will miss her terribly. But look forward to the next time she comes to visit.

Operation Christmas Child 2013

This is how we ended our Veteran's Day off from school.

Thursday, November 7, 2013

New Schedule

  • Up at 4:20 am
  • Get dressed
  • Stretch until 4:35
  • Gym Time
  • Make lunches 5:25 am
  • Shower at 6 am
  • Kiss Curtis good-bye at 6:15
  • Kiss Amanda good-bye at 6:25 am
  • Wake Daniel at 6:40 am
  • Laundry, clean bathroom, waste time on the computer.
  • Drive Daniel to school at 7:25 (and kiss him if I am not wearing lip gloss).
  • Walk Patches at 7:30 am
  • Check email again.
  • Go to Robert's house at 8:15 am
Then...hope Little Man takes a nap at 9:30 so I can have Bible time and close my eyes for twenty minutes. Because boy, I am exhausted by 10:15 am. I need a recharge. When the baby stops taking a morning nap I will have to start drinking caffeine!

If I am in bed before 10 am, it's a good night!

I lost two pounds in two weeks. Curtis lost eight.

Two Weeks

In the last fourteen days, we have worked out twelve times. Not too bad for a couple of middle aged people.

I have decided to increase the level instead of the time. We will continue at thirty minutes. Yesterday and today, we walked to the gym. Yesterday, I was able to get in a mile with the baby in the stroller also. Honestly, some days I am so tired I don't want to walk to the kitchen. By the time Super Why comes on, I am ready for a nap. Unfortunately, Little Man is phasing that morning nap out.

On a side note...the baby turned fifteen months on Wednesday. He is twenty-four pounds. He is my weight training and upper body workout!

Today, I worked on the stair climber for fifteen minutes at level 20. (It starts at level 15). I burned 130 calories. Then I jumped on the elliptical for 15. I usually select "Quick Start" but today I selected CARDIO. There wasn't much of a difference. The machine wants to keep my heart rate at 140. My body wants my heart rate to be 155. After fifteen minutes, I burned 120 calories.

Whoo Hoo...250 calories! Not quite a Tall Caramel Frappuccino from Starbucks. Click here for the details on that!

Hey if I went non-fat, no whip then it would only be 180 calories. But why bother then. I would just drink water. A treat must be a treat!

Which reminds me. When the children wake they must hide their candy. I have been snacking on the Twix and Kit Kats. They are the mini bars. I have discovered that most full size candy bars that I like have about 200 to 210 calories (Hershey, Kit Kat, Crunch).

I found this site that looks totally yummy. Click Here to see Main Dishes and recipes that have 250 calories (or less, I think.)

We are now going to the grocery store to buy breakfast foods. I think I should just pick up duck tape!
