Keeping The Peace And Passing It On.
"For years we've educated our children with the underlying assumption that they learn by hearing and what they were hearing at sporting events, in the cafeteria, in study hall, and even the classroom was teaching some pretty wretched lessons."
This has been the greatest accomplishment of my life- to get young people to throw away what society has taught them is wrong." Lady Gaga
I encountered this last year. Daniel was singing a song that I knew he didn't hear at our house or his buddy's house. I asked him where he heard it and he said in the cafeteria. The wall was next to the middle school weight room. I questioned Amanda and she said there was a worse song. She showed it to me. The lyrics were complete and utter TRASH! I contacted the vice-principal. I contacted friend's who also went to the middle school. I was on a tirade. But Curtis said that I had to back off. So I did. I am sure nothing changed.
That's my weakness. Going on a crusade when I think there needs to be one.
And you might be thinking "pick and choose your battles". Well this is one that we always pick. Other people are controlling what is going in to our children's heads and hearts. And we are allowing it.
OK, I get it. You don't want to listen to your old, lame parent's choice of music. I like a variety of styles and artists. But you don't have to compromise who you are to listen to the popular songs. Try listening to KJ-52, Lacrae, Grits, and Toby Mac.
Actually, I challenge you to listen to nothing but uplifting music (positive and encouraging Klove ) for the next 30 days. See for yourself how it changes you.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23
Garbage in. Garbage out.
What's in the well is coming up in the bucket.
"Entertainment television is the single most powerful force in our society today. If you're concerned about the sewage pouring into our society you have to look at television and the role it plays."
Brent Bozell, founder of The Parents Television Council.
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness we live and do not live by truth. 1 John 1:6
What You Don't Know Can Hurt Your Kids
What to Know:
- How much your child is using technology.
- What your child is doing with technology.
- Whether your child is a bully or a victim.
Anyway, I hope you walk away from here with a little more knowledge. Maybe you will have a change in heart. Maybe you will want to read the book for yourself. Then good for you!
If I mess up raising my kids, nothing I achieve will matter much.
