Simple Life - Part 1

I just finished a 324 page book that I started on February 11th. I highly recommend "Simple Life" by Thom and Art Rainer.

Here is the last two pages of the book for your viewing pleasure.

How to get closer to God

Devise a brief mission statement for a highly intentional plan to have a closer relationship with God. We mean it. Write it down. And make certain that the mission statement is a process you can actually do, not some wordy and unattainable prose.

Here is mine:

I will move closer to God by starting my day by reading the Bible for at least fifteen minutes, by praying more with the children, by reading one devotional by myself and sharing one with the children.

Notice the simplicity of the statement. Notice how attainable the goals are. Notice how the mission statement is also a process or plan.

Conceptually, movement is easy. It's getting rid of the congestion and the obstacles that hinder the progress of your mission statement. Focus is getting rid of the good stuff, but movement is getting rid of the bad stuff. You know what the bad stuff is. And you, with God's help, can begin to clear the congestion.

This step requires an honest look in the mirror. It means that we accomplish the mission statement by aligning our mission statement with our personality, demeanor, gifts, and abilities.

So we're back to the topic of this chapter. Focusing on what really matters means that we often have to eliminate some things from our lives, even if those things are good things. It is a sin to be good if God has called us to be great.

God longs for a deeper relationship with us. But we often let stuff get in the way. The Bible is clear on this relationship in James 4:8 "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you."

That was the first Bible verse Daniel learned when he was just a Cubbie in AWANA.

"Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, double-minded people."

The simple life is not a double-minded life but a single-minded and focused life walking with God. And tat's the foundation upon which everything else is built.

The simple life will simply not work without God.

I will be writing three more mission statements regarding Time, Relationships and Money. But I made Part 4 MY Part 1 because God is most important in Simplifying my Life
